IACRA Notes

Updated Jan. 05, 2010

The Integrated Airman Certification and/or Rating Application (IACRA) is a web-based application designed to complete the airman certification process using an Internet version of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Form 8710, Airman Certificate and/or Rating Application.

The IACRA process provides the following benefits to FAA personnel and designees involved in the certification of airmen:

  • Assigns FAA tracking numbers (FTNs) to all registered users.
  • Eliminates errors and validates data by providing immediate checks of information entered on the application.
  • Speeds up the application process by sending applications electronically to the Airmen Certification Branch, AFS-760.
  • Allows the certification process to function in a paperless environment, as mandated by the Government Paperwork Elimination Act, by providing the ability to sign applications using digital signatures.
  • Eliminates the time and expense of distributing the ACRA compact disks with updates by providing continuous access to the latest Web-based version of IACRA for registered users.

PRACTICAL TEST PROCESS

  1. User registration: The applicant and recommending instructor must register.
  2. Online FAA Form 8710 completion: The applicant must complete the online 8710 form.
  3. Applicant logbook review: When appropriate, the recommending instructor reviews the applicant's logbook or reliable training record to ensure the applicant is ready to take the practical test.
  4. Recommending instructor digital signature: the recommending instructor logs into the IACRA Web site and digitally signs the application.
  5. Practical test scheduling: the recommending instructor or applicant schedules a practical.
  6. Applicant qualification and identity verification: At the appointment for the practical test, the examiner checks the applicant's logbook to ensure the applicant meets all applicable knowledge and aeronautical experience for the certificate or rating sought, and reviews the applicant's photo identification to verify identity.
  7. Applicant's digital signature: The applicant logs onto the IACRA Web site (using the examiner's login) and digitally signs the application.
  8. Practical test begins: Once the certifying officer has determined eligibility, he or she logs onto the IACRA Web site and selects the applicant's information.

FAA TRACKING NUMBERS

The IACRA site generates and displays an FAA Tracking Number (FTN) after registration. Record this number before leaving the page. Do not lose it. IACRA requires the FTN in addition to your user name and password in order to log in. Instructors must use the applicant's FTN to check and sign applications.

DIGITALLY SIGNING FORM 8710 AS AN INSTRUCTOR

Steps to retrieve, approve, and digitally sign an applicant's 8710 form using IACRA:

  1. Obtain the applicant's FTN.
  2. Log in to IACRA as a Recommending Instructor using your own FTN, user name, and password. The instructor completes IACRA approvals by logging into his or her own account, not the applicants.
  3. Retrieve the application using your student's FTN.
  4. View the 8710 and ensure that the applicant has filled it out correctly.
  5. Verify that the applicant's certificate summary is correct.
  6. Follow the steps to electronically sign the application.

Note: The practical test date must be within 60 days after date of recommendation.
